The Mazda brand is synonymous with innovation, quality and technology. These have always been the pillars of the building philosophy of the Hiroshima house, whose cars are designed and engineered to combine the best of the highest reliability and driving pleasure with environmental and passenger safety.
Mazda3 is no exception. Launched in 2014 with a range of engines that include brilliant 1.5L 100hp petrol engines, 2.0L 165 bhp and 150 bhp 2.2 diesel has established itself with European customers looking for an average car with aggressive design able to offer equipment , perceived quality of a higher segment car and a high ride comfort combined with driving pleasure and fuel economy. Mazda has recently completed this successful range with the launch of the new diesel engine SKYACTIV-D 1.5-liter, complying with Euro 6 mated to a manual or automatic six-speed gearbox and capable of delivering 77 kW / 105 hp of maximum power at 4,000 rpm / min. and less than 270 Nm of torque over a wide RPM range of the engine (1600 to 2500 rev / min). The new engine consumes just 3.8 liters of fuel per 100 km (combined) and releases only 99 grams of CO2 per 100 km (combined) performance while allowing very respectable (from 0 to 100 km / h in 11 ” net).
The small diesel 1.5D Skyactiv, perfect for the Italian market, is a small jewel of automotive engineering. Built around Mazda’s 2.2-liter turbo diesel unit is lightened by 50 kg, the new 1.5-liter engine has been developed in order to improve efficiency, driveability, pleasure and ride comfort through the refinement of engine technology and the use of advanced technological solutions.
Take, for example, every effort has to be able to get the “perfect combustion”, ie the one that allows to make the most of all the energy produced by the fuel. A search that led to the adoption of an exceptionally low compression ratio for a diesel engine (14.8: 1) which offers unparalleled benefits in finding the best air / fuel mixture and the maximum combustion efficiency is guaranteed by the sequence d ‘ multistage injection of optimized engine thanks to the effect of high-dispersion atomization of a nozzle of solenoid injection, which, combined with the adoption of a new upper combustion chamber of the ovoid shaped piston ensures in a complete burn and the optimal mixture, to the benefit of fuel consumption and emissions.
But the 1.5 D Skyactiv is not only synonymous with low fuel consumption and emissions, but – as every engine that comes out of the production lines at Hiroshima – is also the pleasure of driving an indispensable asset. To get a better engine responsiveness at every rpm, Mazda then fitted the small variable geometry turbocharger fitted to the 1.5 Skyactiv-D with a speed sensor that allows you to raise the turbocharger rotation limit to more than 12,000 g / min. Then, to remedy to a problem typical of small diesel units with direct injection, (the typical clicking of diesel) the new 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine, intended for Mazda3 was equipped exclusively with a new technology that represents a real gem engineering: the Natural Sound Smoother.
The Natural Sound Smoother (literally “damper of the natural noise”) involves a much ingenious solution as simple: mounting a dynamic damper site inside the pin which joins the piston to the connecting rod. This shock absorber working in contrast with the vibrations of the engine gets a net reduction of the same and noise from knocking around 3.500 kHz, that is, the perceptible frequency on board at start or in the constant speed driving.
The Natural Sound Smoother is thus able to greatly improve the engine noise and acoustic comfort in the use citizen. That fact is one of the features that immediately strikes the driver and passengers of the Mazda3 1.5 diesel, which for noise and acoustic comfort is more similar to a gasoline engine to a diesel.
To achieve this ambitious goal on the third generation of the Mazda3 were applied innovatile technologies in order to guarantee a driving experience without compromises every day.
